Rebuilding a forgotten Indianapolis ballpark

After finding a historical marker between the Indianapolis Zoo and the White River last spring, I set out to learn all I could about West Washington Street Park in Indianapolis. The ballpark was the first home for the Indianapolis Indians until 1931 and the Indianapolis ABCs of the Negro League from 1920-26.

But what I really wanted to show was how it would look today if it were to pop up in its old spot. Using photographs, plat maps and other reference material, I retraced the footprint of the field and built a 3D model of the ballpark. As it turns out, the ballpark occupied an area that now includes part of the zoo and its parking lot.
